A Large North Italian Silvered Mirror c1790
A rare and beautifully carved large silvered mirror, in exceptional condition, from Piedmont, c.1790. The later divided mercury plates surrounded by a mirrored border edged in carved beads, the foliate tendrils weaving their way through the frame. Stylised Greek Key corners and centres have trailing swags and flowing leaves falling from them. The crest centred by a classical urn overflowing with more foliate carving and flower heads, terminating in a pair of flaming torches. A wonderfully dry untouched back showing the heads of C18th hand-cut nails, lap joints and saw marks. This mirror is spectacular.
