Giltwood and Specimen Marble Console Table

A wonderful late 18th Century North Italian (probably Genoese) giltwood and specimen marble console table.

The later rectangular specimen marble top inset with a fabulous selection of various marble and semi-precious stones including Porphyry, Sicilian Jasper, Giallo Antico and Lapis Lazuli as well as many, over 80 in total.

The surface of the giltwood base now beautifully worn, uncovering some of its original ochre coloured bole, with flashes of its original silver gilding. The panelled frieze with boldly carved swags above a border of Vetruvian scrolls centred with a military trophy. On tapering turned legs, terminating in acanthus clasped feet.
